In the event that the green LED has stopped blinking and is completely off after you have sent your Wi-Fi credentials, this means that the device has received the Wi-Fi credentials you gave it, but either doesn't recognize them or something is preventing it from connecting to the Internet.

Indicatively, the reasons why this particular problem may have occurred can be the following:

  • There is a spelling error in the Wi-Fi name and password you entered.
  • The HAM device is not communicating with your router due to poor signal range.
  • Something is objectively preventing your router from communicating with the Internet temporarily.
  • Some complex security or operational setting on your router is preventing it from communicating with the Internet.

Below are suggested ways you can check if any of the above has occurred, as well as ways to rectify the problem:

1. Confirming your Wi-Fi credentials

The first and simplest step you can take is to repeat the whole setup process from the beginning, re-entering your Wi-Fi name and password, confirming that the information is correct.

Even one "blank" character you entered, or didn't enter by mistake, can result in your Wi-Fi being unable to communicate with your device!

In other words, in the case the green LED is off, the device received the information you gave it, but that information is probably not correct!

You can see how to check the validity of your Wi-Fi data from your router's settings by following the instructions, in our related article, by clicking here.

2. Checking the range of your Wi Fi

Once you have ensured that your Wi-Fi credentials are correct, it is possible that your HAM device may not be able to connect to the internet due to a weak Wi-Fi signal range, at the location where the device is installed.

Even if your mobile phone has a sufficient signal at the location, there are several factors that can negatively affect the signal range to the HAM device (blind spots, objects - obstacles, etc.)

You can see how to check your Wi-Fi's range at the location of the HAM device, following the instructions, in our related article, by clicking here.

3. Checking your router's Internet connection

In case you are absolutely sure that the above criteria are met, you have tried the device setup process again, but still the green LED is off, the next step is to ensure that your router is communicating with the Internet.

You can see how to check and fix your router's Internet connection problems, following the instructions, in our related article, by clicking here.

4. Check your router's security settings

In case you have ensured that your router's connection to the Internet is active, without any connectivity issues, but the green LED is still off, then your router probably has some specific security settings that prevent a HAM device from communicating with the Internet.

Indicatively, we present certain settings that may be causing the problem, as well as ways of resolving it.

- For all of the following settings and corrections, you will need to log into the configuration page of your Wi-Fi router:

  • Connect to the Wi-Fi whose settings you want to check, and in any browser type "192.168.1.1" (or the IP address indicated on your router) in the search bar, to be taken to the router's settings page.
  • Fill in your account login details, which, if not changed, are usually:

Username "admin" and the password indicated on the back of your router.

You can go into more detail about this in your router's manual, or by contacting your provider.

Obtained IP address from the HAM device

The first step after logging into your router's configuration page is to check if the HAM device has received an IP address from the router. You can see how to test this by following the instructions, in our related article, by clicking here, following the testing procedure up to step 3.

The device should show up as hamXX_XXXX, where XX_XXXX is the S/N of the device.

  • If you don't see the device in the distributed IP list, then the HAM device is not connected to your router, which means:

1. You need to review steps 1 and 2 of this article: Re-examine the correctness of the data you are entering into the device and the range of your Wi-Fi.

2. There is DHCP Overload: You can see how to check if there is any DHCP overload problem and troubleshoot it by following the instructions, in our related article, by clicking here.

3. Unable to find a 2.4GHz network: You can see how to check if there's any issue with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network or a 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi network " conflict ", following the instructions in our article on the subject, by clicking here.

  • If you do see the device in the distributed IP list, then the HAM device is connected to your router. In this case, proceed to examine the rest of your router's security settings, as shown below:

Firewall Protection

You can see how to check if your Wi-Fi router's Firewall is preventing a HAM device from connecting to the Internet, as well as modify this setting, by following the instructions, in our related article, by clicking here.

Access ports (Ports)

You can find out how to check if the appropriate ports are open for HAM devices to communicate with the Internet and how to troubleshoot the possible problem, by following the instructions in our article on the subject, by clicking here.

Limited list of devices

There is a more rare setting, although quite possible in business premises, that may prevent the HAM device from connecting to the Internet.

This setting is called "Wireless MAC Filtering" and it has to do with the limited device access to a router, a kind of filtering of allowed devices based on their MAC address.

Audit:

  • Go to the "Wireless" or "Wi-Fi" tab, from your router's settings menu.
  • Then go to the "Wireless MAC Filtering" tab. There, you will see all the devices that have been given exclusive access through this setting.

Troubleshooting:

There are two ways to choose from, in order to deal with the obstacles that "Wireless MAC Filtering" may pose:

  • You can disable the "Wireless MAC Filtering" filtering process altogether, by tapping the "Disable" option.
  • Alternatively, in case you wish to keep the setting active, then you can very simply add the HAM device you wish to configure to the list of allowed devices, with the MAC Address of the device.

You can see how to add a HAM device to the allowed devices list by following the detailed instructions, in our related article, by clicking here.
