Activation of the appropriate ports for the connection of HAM devices

All HAM devices use ports 9001 and 9002 to connect to the Internet and communicate with our cloud to send the readings they receive. It is therefore essential that these ports are "open" so that this communication can take place.
You need to ensure that there is no specific setting that only allows communication on certain ports or that prohibits communication on ports 9001 and 9002, which are needed for HAM devices.

What directly concerns you is the communication of ports 9001 and 9002 regarding "outgoing" signals, meaning their communication "outwards" to the Internet.
You can see if ports 9001 and 9002 are open, in a relatively simple way, by using certain commands via your computer's "Command Line" in conjunction with the website" portquiz.net ":
1. Click on the link above, or search the "portquiz" website to enter the corresponding web page.

2. On this website you will see the suggested ways in which you can test the communication of specific ports to the Internet.

For each of them, a sample message it illustrated for successful communication of a port to the Internet, meaning the message you should see if the corresponding port is open.

3. For this purpose, in your computer's search bar, type "Command prompt" to open your computer's "Command Prompt".

4. At the Command Prompt, use any of the above suggested ways to test the ports, depending on the features enabled on your computer.

5. In this example, we see that ports 9001 and 9002 are successfully communicating "outwards" to the Internet.

** In the event that after testing ports 9001 and 9002 with the above procedure, you find that the desired communication to the Internet does not exist, then you can activate these ports by following the procedure below, which is shown in an illustrative administrative environment.
Enabling HAM device access ports
In case you finally find that the necessary communication ports are closed, then the way to open them, is the "Port Forwarding" method.
With this method, you can open essentially open specific ports only for some specific devices, without compromising the overall security of your router:
1. First, you must give your HAM device a specific IP address to which you will "forward" the specific ports you want:
- You can choose which IP address to give to the device, by choosing from the available IP addresses in the "DHCP Settings" (1) section, as long as that one has not already been assigned, something you can check from the IPs of the already connected devices in the "DHCP Client List" (2) section.


- After selecting the IP you want to bind for the HAM device, proceed with this binding, following the detailed instructions, in our related article, by clicking here.
Let's say that here we choose to give the device the IP address "192.168.0.230"

2. Then, through the appropriate action, we will direct ports 9001 and 9002 exclusively to our device, so that it can access the Internet and operate smoothly:
- In the "Forwarding" tab (you may see "NAT Forwarding or "Port Forwarding" depending on your provider), under the "Virtual Server" section, click "Add New" to add a new port forwarding rule to your HAM device.

- In the section that appears, in "Service Port" enter "9001-9002" (1), in "IP Address" enter the IP address of the HAM device you set before (here "192.168.0.230") (2), in "Protocol" select "ALL" (3), and finally in "Status" select "Enabled" (4). Click "Save" to save your selections.

- By completing this step, you have now bound ports 9001 and 9002 for your HAM device. You should now have no further Internet connectivity issues.
