One of the many advantages HAM devices offer, is the ability to create rules for your devices. By defining rules, you can be notified in multiple ways when a certain event, which your device is aware of, occurs.
This process has the form of satisfying conditions: "IF something = true, THEN take an action". Therefore, when the condition you have defined is satisfied, you will be notified in the way you have defined.
The process of creating, editing and removing rules and alerts is detailed below:
To navigate to your rules select the "Rules" tab from the main menu

Add a new rule
1. Press the button marked "+" to add a new rule. Here, you can also see the remaining number of rules to add (e.g. here there are 5 left).

2. In the section that appears, in the "IF" part, you can see the part of the condition you want to be satisfied and in the "THEN" part, the notification you want to receive if the above condition is satisfied. Also, you can set the name you want for the rule by clicking on the "New Rule" box.

Creating an "IF" condition
1. In order to create the condition of the 'IF' section, you can define the device and the measurement to which the rule will apply, in the top line, and the condition and the limit value of the measurement, as well as the time duration for which the rule will apply, in the bottom line.
* The general logic for defining the bottom line condition is as follows:
- "Greater than" means in practice that the temperature is moving towards warmer levels.
- "Less than" means in practice that the temperature is moving towards the cooler levels.
** If you want the option "between" or "not between", then you need to set two limit values.

2. In case you wish to create multi-condition rules, you can add a new condition to "IF" by pressing "+" below the previous condition. It is possible to set up to 4 conditions in total.
** Caution! When you set multi-condition rules, the "and" means that ALL conditions must be met SIMULTANEOUSLY, in order to receive a notification. If you want one condition or another to be satisfied, you must set a separate rule!

3. In case you want to specify for which days, hours or combination of conditions the rule will be triggered to notify you, you can go to our detailed article on the topic by clicking here.
Creating "THEN" Notifications
1. Personal notifications: You can specify in "THEN", how you wish to be notified if the above events of the "IF" leg occur. You can choose between four notification modes, which can be used separately or all together, by adding notifications from the "+" button with the "and" function, as before:
- Using the "Notify me (App)" option: when the "IF" events occur, you will receive a notification via the "HAM" app on your mobile phone.
- Using the "Email me" option: when the "IF" events occur, you will receive a notification in the email with which you have created an account.
- Using the "Send me an SMS" option: when the events of "IF" occur, you will receive an SMS notification to the mobile phone you set in the form.
(To use the "Send me an SMS" option you must have SMS available in your account. You can view your balance or add SMS packages by following the instructions from the related article by clicking here.)
- Use of the "Make a phone call" option: when the events of "IF" occur, you will receive a notification by phone call to the mobile phone you set in the form, in the language you wish.
(To use the "Make a phone call" option you must have phone calls available in your account. You can view your balance or add call packages by following the instructions from the related article by clicking here.)
** In any alert you set, you can write a short text that will be displayed or heard in case of an alert (e.g. "Ham Thermosense Temperature greater than 10°C")

2. Notifications to third parties: It is possible to notify others besides you, in case any of the above events of the "IF" part take place. You can choose between four ways of notifying third parties, which can be used separately or all together, by adding notifications from the "+" with the "and" function, as before:
- Use of the "Notify everyone (App)" option: when the "IF" events occur, a notification is sent, via the "HAM" app, to you and to everyone who has the respective devices "Shared" to them. You can see how to "Share" a device with third parties by clicking here.
- Use of the "Email other" option: when the events of "IF" occur, a third party, whose email address you specify in the form, receives a notification in their email.
- Use of the "Send me an SMS" option: when the events of "IF" occur, a third party, whose mobile phone number you put in the form, receives a notification by SMS on their mobile phone.
(To use the "Send me an SMS" option you must have SMS available in your account. You can view your balance or add call packages by following the instructions from the related article by clicking here.)
- Use of the "Make a phone call" option: when the events of "IF" occur, a third party, whose mobile phone number you set in the form, receives a notification by phone call on their mobile phone.
(To use the "Make a phone call" option, you must have phone calls available on your account. You can view your balance or add call packages by following the instructions from the related article by clicking here.)

3. Notifications to other HAM devices: it is possible to notify other HAM devices you own, in case the above events of the "IF" leg occur, so that they perform an action that you will define.
For example, let's say you control a water heater with the HAM DinSwitch device and the temperature inside it with a HAM ThermoSense device. You could set a rule to shut down the water heater if the temperature exceeds a certain value:

Notifications for returning to normal operation
In the last part of a rule "ON RESET", you can specify a form of notification that you will receive for returning to normal operation. When the "IF" condition is no longer met and everything returns to normal, then you, third parties or other HAM devices can be notified in a similar manner as before.
For example, if you want to be notified: 1) By an App notification whenever the temperature of your Thermosense is greater than 10°C for 5 minutes and 2) By e-mail when the temperature returns to normal, then the rule will have the following format:

** Any addition you make throughout the process can be deleted each time by clicking on the red bucket icon to the left of the command.
