If the green LED on your device is completely off during the setup process after you have entered your WiFi credentials, it means the device has received the information but either doesn’t recognize it or is being prevented from connecting to the Internet. Here are some potential reasons for this issue:
  • There is a spelling mistake in the name and password of the WiFi you entered
  • The HAM device is not communicating with your router due to poor signal range
  • Something is temporarily preventing your router from communicating with the internet
  • A complex security or operational setting on your router is preventing the device from communicating with the internet
Below are suggested ways in which you can check if any of the above is happening, as well as ways to correct the problem.
Confirm your WiFi credentials
The first and simplest step you can take is to restart the setup process from the beginning. Re-enter the WiFi name and password, making sure the information is correct. Even a small mistake, such as a missing character or an unintentional space, can prevent the WiFi from communicating with the device.
Control the range of WiFi
As long as you have verified that your WiFi credentials are correct, the HAM device may still struggle to connect to the internet due to a weak signal at its installation location. Even if your mobile phone receives a strong signal in the same area, several factors can negatively impact the signal strength to the HAM device, such as blind spots, physical objects, and other obstacles.
Checking your router's connection to the Internet
In case you are absolutely sure that the above criteria are met, you tried the device setup process again, but the green LED is still off, the next step is to ensure that your router is connected to the Internet.
Checking the security settings of your router
If you've confirmed that your router's connection to the Internet is active and there are no connectivity issues, but the green LED is still off, your router may have specific security settings that are preventing the HAM device from accessing the Internet. Below, we outline some of these settings that could be causing the problem and provide solutions to resolve the issue.
  • Connect to the WiFi whose settings you want to check
  • Fill in your account login details, which are indicated on the back of your router
  • In any browser, type the IP address indicated on your router in the search bar to be taken to the router's settings page
After logging into your router's configuration page, the first step is to check whether the HAM device has received an IP address from the router. You can find instructions on how to do this in our related article; just click here and follow the testing procedure up to step 3. The device should appear as HAMXX_XXXX, where XX_XXXX represents the device's serial number. If you do not see the device in the list of distributed IP addresses, it means that the HAM device is not connected to your router. This indicates that:

1. You should review steps 1 and 2 of this article: Re-check the correctness of the data you are passing to the device and the range of your WiFi.

2. There is DHCP Overload: You can see how to check if there is any DHCP overload problem and troubleshoot it by following the instructions, in our related article.

3. Unable to find a 2.4GHz network.

If you see the device in the distributed IP list, then the HAM device is connected to your router. In this case, proceed to examine the remaining security settings of your router as shown below:
Firewall Protection

You can see how to check if the Firewall of your WiFi router is blocking a HAM device from connecting to the internet, and how to modify this setting, by following the instructions in our article.

Access ports

You can see how to check if the appropriate ports are open for HAM devices to communicate with the internet and how to troubleshoot the possible problem by following the instructions in our article.

Restricted list of devices
There is a less common but possible scenario in business settings that may prevent the HAM device from connecting to the Internet. This scenario is known as "Wireless MAC Filtering," which restricts access to the router based on the MAC addresses of devices. Essentially, it limits which devices are allowed to connect to the network.
  • hen go to the "Wireless MAC Filtering" tab. There you will see all the devices that have been given exclusive access through this setting
  • Go to the "Wireless" or "WiFi" tab, from the settings menu of your router
To deal with the obstacles that "Wireless MAC Filtering" may pose, there are two ways to choose from:
  • You can disable the "Wireless MAC Filtering" filtering process altogether by clicking on the "Disable" option
  • Alternatively, in case you wish to keep the setting active, then you can simply add the HAM device you wish to configure to the list of allowed devices, with the MAC Address of the device.
