Matching and orientation of the tension transformer (CT)
One of the most important possibilities offered by HAM devices is that of measuring and recording the load consumption of any supply, using the HAM DinSwitchM device.
With the HAM single-phase meter solution, you can receive live updates, alerts, and records at no cost indefinitely. This allows you to draw valuable insights about the total consumption of your single-phase load, regardless of size and flow rate.
The HAM DinSwitchM devices provide you with the above possibilities by performing the measurement with a built-in current transformer (CT) for any load.
Conditions necessary for the correctness of the measurements
The proper operation and accurate measurement of the HAM DinSwitchM meter depend on correct installation and wiring of both the HAM DinSwitchM and the voltage transformer, along with the power supply cables.
The two key connectivity factors that determine the reception and transmission of correct measurements and data are:
  • The correct matching of the HAM DinSwitchM power supply phase - measuring phase of the voltage transformer.
  • The correct orientation (polarity) of the Tension Transformer itself on the phase cable.
Correct matching and orientation of tension transformers (CT)
To effectively address discrepancies, it's important to clarify the proper placement and connection of current transformers (CT).
1. Voltage - Phase Transformer Matching

As outlined in the instruction sheet accompanying the HAM DinSwitchM device, it is essential to ensure that the lower power supply position of the HAM DinSwitchM corresponds correctly with the pair of positions directly opposite it. The transformer connected to the upper positions must measure the corresponding phase passing through the lower supply position. In particular, as you will see in the instruction sheet:

  • The M/T-12 connected to the upper positions 4-5 must measure the phase passing through the consumption we want to measure.
2. Voltage transformer orientation (polarity)
The second necessary criterion that must be met is the correct polarity of the voltage transformer. This consists of two factors:
  • The wiring of the cables to the HAM DinSwitchM
  • The wrapping of the phase cable with the correct orientation
The proposed transformer wiring alternates between "White" and "Black" at the transformer positions, arranged in the order of "Left" to "Right," as illustrated in the figure below.

According to the transformer manufacturer's orientation, the phase wrapping must correspond to the given wiring (White/Left - Black/Right). Depending on the type of transformer, the orientation symbol can be:

  • K -> L, with K being the phase arrival from the source and L the direction to the load.
  • S1 -> S2, where S1 is taken to be the phase arrival from the source and S2 the direction to the load.
* In any case where you cannot change the phase winding orientation of the M/T, you can simply change the wiring of its cables (White/Right - Black/Left).
Now you are ready!
After completing all the above steps, you are now able to take advantage of all the features provided by your HAM devices and draw valuable conclusions from monitoring the consumption of your load supply!
